Gangs and Cults is a class that looks at how gangs and cults operate in the United States and while members agree to follow those leaders. Alcoholism and Sexual Abuse is another required course that focuses on the connections between criminal activities and how drugs and alcohol can change the way people think and behave. The program includes required classes on Juvenile Delinquency and Advanced Criminology and Profiling.

Ashland offers other opportunities for criminal justice majors. Students can work with juveniles or adults in cities across the country. The university also allows students to do field experiences in their own hometowns over the summer semester. About Ashland University

Ashland University is a private university that has a religious affiliation with The Brethren Church. Located in the Ohio city of the same name, the Ashland campus is close to major cities, including both Cleveland and Columbus. Established in 1878, the university opened just one year after locals agreed to raise the funds needed to build a new college campus in the city. Called Ashland College for several years, it opened for classes in 1879 and saw the number of applications it received grow slowly over the coming years. Though it only had an enrollment rate of 200 students at one point, its enrollment today includes more than 5,700 students.

U.S. News and World Report ranks Ashland within the top 200 of all colleges in the United States. The university also saw its online MBA program ranked as one of the most affordable programs in the country. Forbes included the university within the top 20 of the schools that it ranks as having the best return on their investments. Though more than 70% of its current students come from Ohio, the university welcomes students from any other state and from other countries to apply. Ashland has a second smaller campus that offers some of the same classes too. Students have the option of doing a study abroad program and/or taking classes online from Ashland also.

Ashland University Accreditation Details

As Ashland University has regional accreditation from the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCACS), students can transfer credits from and to the university. This includes students transferring from other schools and those who took college courses at the high school level. NCACS accreditation also allows students to use the FAFSA, which helps them get the financial aid that they need each year they remain in school.

Ashland University Application Requirements

With an acceptance rate of more than 76%, Ashland accepts a large number of students who apply every year. It typically accepts all students who meet its general admissions requirements. Incoming freshmen must score at least 18 on the ACT or 860 on the SAT and have a high school grade point average of 2.5 or higher. The university asks students to submit their transcripts to show that they have a higher GPA. They will also provide official scores from one of the entrance exams. The university does not require a test score from a student who completed high school more than three years ago.

As Ashland reviews each individual application that it receives, it recommends that students apply even if they think they don't meet these requirements. Students may receive a conditional acceptance letter that requires they take introductory courses in their first year and maintain a higher GPA. All students will also use the Ashland online application. It takes most students just 30 minutes or less to complete the application because the university does not ask for references or other forms. Ashland does not require that students write an essay either.

Tuition and Financial Aid

Any undergrad who takes 11 or fewer credits in a semester pay the university's part-time tuition rate, which comes out to $940 per credit hour. There are other fees for students who want to audit classes and those spending a semester abroad.

Once they view their aid packages, they will need to accept them before the semester starts.

The financial aid available for undergrads includes many different grants and student loans.
